Project Scope Our three rivers define the project's scope, out to the edges of Allegheny County. There are two phases: a 3.5 year long research phase and a 1.5 year long community design phase. The project began in year one (2000) at the center of Allegheny County, in what is known as the "Pittsburgh Pool." The project works in the Monongahela Valley in Year 2, the Allegheny River Valley in Year 3, and the Ohio River in Year 4 Beginning in Year 4 and culminating in Year 5 (2004), we enter the design phase where the project team will concentrate on final analysis, policy issues, and community planning. A team of artists, landscape architects and engineers will be assembled to work on waterfront restoration plans in yet to be determined waterfront municipalities.
The project will culminate with a final analysis of the data collected. We will then embark on a community design program that develops concept plans with specific waterfront communities in the region. These plans and related artworks will be presented in an exhibition and a Living Rivers and Streams Conference. All work will be developed in dialogue with citizens and decision-makers in Western Pennsylvania. |
